“Let’s get it on!” -BJM

In the words of Big John McCarthy, “Let’s get it on!”.

I have started this blog as a way of expressing my thoughts and experience in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and Strength Training.

A Brief background: I began my training in 1993, training in Hapkido. I received my Hapkido Black Belt in Aug. of 1995. I trained in boxing in 1994 and 1995. Entered the Indiana Golden Gloves and won my division (3-0 as an amateur boxer). Other styles trained in include, Muay Thai, BJJ and Martial Concepts. For personal reasons I quit training for several Years. In 2004 I decided to get back into the game and compete in MMA. I train in Combat Submission Wrestling and Muay Thai at Monroe County Martial Arts, under Khun Kru David Miller and Khun Kru Brian Heeter.

I have had 4 mma fights, my record is 3-1. On April 29th, 2006 I won the Elite Cage Fighting amateur Light Heavyweight title. The loss came from my last fight on July 1, 2006 when defending my title. 22 seconds into the first round I suffered a freak accident in which I broke my right leg. As I stepped backwards, and started to push forward again, all the weight and torque caused my tibia and fibula to break. I dropped like a sack of potato’s and lost the match.

After the leg break I took off 4 months from training. (talk about a speedy recovery). In Nov. I started back in CSW classes 1 night per week. I also just started sparring again on 12/2. Through Dec. I will continue with the one CSW class per week and sparring on saturdays. Come Jan. 1 I will began training again full bore in preparation of fighting again.

That brings us to now. I plan on using this blog to share my thoughts and training. To share them with those interested in MMA and Strength Training.
